Mrs. Goodstitch

Mrs. GoodstitchMrs. Goodstitch began unofficially in Land O’ Lakes, Florida 30 years ago when Mrs. Kaple, alias Mrs. Goodstitch, and her husband opened Interior Outlet, a store specializing in home treatments. Per customer request and for time efficiency, they decided to make bedspreads in-house. They soon discovered the custom treatments were more popular than the spreads they had been ordering. After a successful period at Interior Outlet, she and her husband decided to retire in 1988. They sold their land and moved their extensive equipment, which includes several working vintage sewing machines from the 1950s, to South Carolina.

Mrs. GoodstitchQuickly growing tired of retirement, Mrs. Kaple began making spreads as an independent project. Mr. Kaple traveled, acquiring accounts. They chose to move their business into a large red barn for convenience, as the barn is a steel building with ample work space. The business proceeded to grow by word of mouth, and Mr. Kaple began to recruit interior designers and drapery workrooms, traveling along the East Coast from Virginia to Florida. In 1995 their son Grant Kaple joined the family business. Grant manages the business and technology aspects of Mrs. Goodstitch, which boasts 11 highly skilled full time employees.

The Mrs. Goodstitch goal is to figure out exactly what customers want and they will work extensively to do just that. The client specifies all details of the custom order, which includes-but is not limited to-spreads, pillow shams, dust ruffles, table skirts and pillows. Fabric is shipped in by accounts, and all orders pending quilting and embroidery design, which are handled digitally, are handmade.
